BOOK CLUB NEW (book for oct nov dec)
OCT BOOK
THE ISLAND BY VICTORIA HISLOP
The blurb
On the brink of a life-changing decision, Alexis Fielding longs to find out about her mother’s past. But Sofia has never spoken of it. All she admits to is growing up in a small Cretan village before moving to London. When Alexis decides to visit Crete, however, Sofia gives her daughter a letter to take to an old friend, and promises that through her she will learn more. Arriving in Plaka, Alexis is astonished to see that it lies a stone’s throw from the tiny, deserted island of Spinalonga – Greece’s former leper colony. Then she finds Fotini, and at last hears the story that Sofia has buried all her life: the tale of her great-grandmother Eleni and her daughters and a family rent by tragedy, war and passion. She discovers how intimately she is connected with the island, and how secrecy holds them all in its powerful grip…

The acclaimed million-copy number one bestseller and winner of Richard & Judy’s Summer Read 2006 from Victoria Hislop is a dramatic tale of four generations, rent by war, illicit love, violence and leprosy, from the thirties, through the war, to the present day.

The blurb
With her Cornish Beach Café closed for the winter, Evie Flynn should be looking forward to lazy days and a happy Christmas, with nothing more pressing to think about than when to have her next mince pie.

Then her boyfriend Ed breaks the news that he’s going to spend Christmas in London, for family reasons, and her heart sinks even further.

Tanya review post on a monday my birthday post Harry Potter

TANYA REVIEW POST ON A MONDAY
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TANYA X

HARRY POTTER
I decided last week that I fancied a week of birthday themed books as thought a birthday book would be great to post today on my birthday. I read quite a few but really the books that always remind me of birthdays are the Harry Potter books. Of course they start with both the birthday of Dudley, Harry’s mean cousin, and of Harry Potter himself turning of age to go to Hogwarts the school of magic. The series of books cover Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione through their school years and the many adventures that they get up to along the way against the dark arts and he who must not be named.

I first came across these books as an adult as obviously I am not that young!! I was teaching in a year 5 class, the year after I graduated, and all that the children discussed was the Harry potter books. Obviously I wanted to know what all the fuss was about so read them. Then my husband read them, then my mum and my in laws. Needless to say we were all hooked and could not wait for the next book to be released. For our first anniversary my husband bought me to book set which was then only four books. We eagerly awaited the release of the films. They are good but of course your imagination is better.

We have twice been to the Harry Potter studios once just me and hubby and once with our girls who are now hooked on Harry Potter books. The studios are amazing and even though been twice I could happily go again. The detail that goes into the sets and all the props is outstanding and Of course the added bonus is the butter beer!!!

If you haven’t read Harry Potter I think you should as J K Rowling is an amazing author and her writing technique improves during the series.

About the Author

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was J.K. Rowling’s first novel, followed by the subsequent six titles in the Harry Potter series, as well as three books written for charity: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. The Harry Potter novels have now sold over 450 million copies worldwide and been translated into 77 languages.

I got to say i never read any Harry Potter books Tanya says i the only person that not read any ?
Have you all read i can not be the only person can i ?

THE BLURB
Some secrets are best left buried…

Researching her family tree had been little more than a hobby – until Katie stepped onto Kingsley House’s sprawling, ivy-strewn drive. The house may be crumbling today, but it was once the intimidatingly opulent residence of the St Clairs, Katie’s ancestors. Arriving here two hundred years later, emotion stirs in Katie: a strange nostalgia for a place she’s never seen before… and when Kingsley House comes up for sale, Katie is determined that her family must buy it.

Surrounded by the mysteries of the past, Katie’s pastime becomes a darker obsession, as she searches through history to trace her heritage. But she soon discovers that these walls house terrible secrets. And when forgotten stories and hidden betrayals come to light, the past seems more alive than Katie could ever have imagined.

Moving between the 21st and 19th centuries, The Emerald Comb is a hauntingly evocative novel, perfect for fans of Kate Morton and Rachel Hore.

MY BOOK OF THE MONTH

The blurb
Forgive me, Dorothea, for I cannot forgive you. What you do, to this child, to this child’s mother, it is wrong…

Dorothy is unhappily married to Albert, who is away at war. When an aeroplane crashes in the field behind her house she meets Squadron Leader Jan Pietrykowski, and as their bond deepens she dares to hope she might find happiness. But fate has other plans for them both, and soon she is hiding a secret so momentous that its shockwaves will touch her granddaughter many years later…

THE SLIVER CHAIN BY PRIMULA. BOND

THE SILVER CHAIN BY PRIMULA BOND
THE BLURB
Bound by passion, she was powerless to resist.

The Silver Chain is the first in the sexy, passionate and addictive Unbreakable Trilogy by Primula Bond.

One dark evening in London, photographer Serena Folkes is indulging her impulsive side with a night-time shoot. But someone is watching her – mysterious entrepreneur Gustav Levi. Serena doesn’t know it yet, but this handsome stranger will change her life forever…

Serena is fascinated by Gustav, the enigmatic owner of the Levi Gallery, and she soon feels an irresistible pull of attraction. The interest is mutual, and Gustav promises to launch Serena’s photographic career at his gallery, but only if Serena agrees to become his exclusive companion.

To mark their agreement, Gustav gives Serena a bracelet to wear at all times. Attached to it is a silver chain of which he is the keeper. With the chain Gustav controls Serena physically and symbolically – a sign that she is under his power.

As their passionate relationship intensifies, Gustav’s hold on the silver chain grows stronger. But will Gustav’s dark past tear them apart?

A seductive and beautifully written novel perfect for fans of erotic romance.
WHAT I SAY
I did enjoy this book but did find it a bit hard to get into
The book very well written you do become involved with the story it was a very sexy read . very sensual at times you may or may no like it to know as much . The descriptions are very full on but written into the story well

You may want to know what the sliver chain is ? It a bracelet that Serena wears all the time it got a small sliver chain attached to it Gustav the keeper of this chain he has the power over Serena
The book will make you laugh, cry, and blush at times

Serena seem to be very innocent girl very fragile we are not sure why but as the story goes on we understand why

Gustav”s very controlling i not sure if i like him at all but we get to hear a lot about him i did soft to him a bit you do connect with them both you do get to know them so well which i like they become your friends
I think the past was very much part of how they both are you will get to see them for them selfs
I was not sure why Serena would go with a man 20 years older may be she thinks he could teach her a thing or two
Serena was a photographer she enjoyed doing night shots she thinks some one watching her at times that someone was Gustav he makes her to promises i would not let any make condition on a friendship is so wrong but that how they become friends
It a very good plot
You will love or hate the book i not sure what i think i did not like Gustav but by the end i like him the character are very deep it got a few twist and turns
I not sure if i like it it was just not my kind of book but was so well written good story just not me
3 stars borrow ok read i wouldn’t read again

TANYA”S REVIEW ON MONDAY

TANYA ‘S REVIEW ON MONDAY
Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Jill Mansell

In a week where there was a challenge between some book enthusiasts to read 7 books in 7 days I had 7 great books to choose from to do this week’s post. This book was the first of the week and set a precedence of a week of fantastic reading.

I love reading Jill Mansell books so when this came up as free on the Kindle I jumped at the chance and I was not disappointed.
THE BLURB
Dexter Yates loves his fun, care-free London life; he has money, looks and girlfriends galore. But everything changes overnight when his sister dies, leaving him in charge of her eight-month-old daughter Delphi. How is he ever going to cope?

Comic-strip artist Molly Hayes lives in the beautiful Cotswold village of Briarwood. When it comes to relationships, she has a history of choosing all the wrong men. Leaving the city behind, Dex moves to Briarwood – a much better place to work on his parenting skills – and he and Molly become neighbours. There’s an undeniable connection between them. But if Dexter’s going to adapt, he first has a lot to learn about Molly, about other people’s secrets…and about himself.
WHAT TANYA SAID
Dexter Yates is a fun loving guy who does not do long term relationships and often allows them to overlap. If he says he will ring you he probably won’t. However he loves his sister and now his new little niece Delphi. His sister dies suddenly in a car accident and he is left with the decision of whether to take Delphi on as is own. The problem is that if he does his bachelor lifestyle will have to change and he is not sure how he will cope.

Molly Hayes lives in the village of Briarwood next door to where Dexter buys a holiday home. She does a few jobs including a comic strip artist, helping in the local café and an evening art class. She is liked by all the people in the village.

The first time these two characters meet Molly cover Dexter’s then girlfriend in dad fish juices when she throws a dead fish that she received as a sorry gift off her ex-boyfriend, over the adjoining fence. Not a great way to introduce yourself to your soon to be new neighbour.

There is chemistry between the two characters and Molly is always there to help and support Dexter with Delphi. Who is a very sweet baby that continues to cause natural problems that having a baby entails. From changing nappies, sleep patterns and generally getting out of the house with a baby in tow.

There are quite a few different stories running through the book which brings the characters to life and adds a nice twist to the story. It shows the interaction that I believe people in a small village would have with one another.

The book had me laughing out loud in places and I constantly wanted to shout at Dexter and molly to get it together. I recommend that you read this book and enjoy.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The author of many bestselling novels, most recently A WALK IN THE PARK, Jill Mansell is a full-time writer. She lives in Bristol with her family.

Honeymoon hotel by Hester browne

THE HONEYMOON HOTEL BY HESTER BROWNE
THE BLURB
The Bonneville Hotel is the best kept secret in Mayfair: its art deco suites and glittering ballrooms a former home-away-from-home for royalty and film stars alike. Recent years haven’t been kind, but thanks to Events Manager Rosie, the Bonneville is reclaiming some of its old cachet as a chic retro-glam wedding venue.
While Rosie’s weddings are the ultimate in romance, Rosie herself isn’t; she’s focused on the details, not the dramas. But when the hotel owner appoints his eccentric son Joe to the Bonneville staff, Rosie finds herself up against an unprecedented challenge: a rival whose predilection for the unconventional could derail not only Rosie’s own career, but the most elaborate, high-profile wedding the Bonneville has ever seen.
WHAT I SAY
I got to say i love Hester Browne books .The vintage girl is one of my favourites .If you liked Hotel Babylon on tv a few years ago you will love this book it very much like that . The hotel sounded lovely the description of the hotel were great i love that we got told the history too i wanted to go there to see it you get pulled into the hotel it sounded a great place to work lots of fun times it a very enjoyable places to be i say too it got a lot of laugh out loud moments , fun times, love , weddings, events, food, lots of mishaps, you just get pulled into it all
Rosie’s the main character she lovely she the events manager she very passionate about the wedding she doing she could be very full on to me she a very determined, ambitions, lady she not very lucky in love she wants to run the hotel that her plan
Joe i loved him he just made me laugh he a very nice guy he got very different idea for wedding
Rosie see joe as a threat he not i say
Joe got to learn about the hotel him and Rosie’s got to work together but they seem to get a lot of problems , unruly brides, bizarre requests can they cope with it all can they work as one i loved how they pull together
I got to say from the start you could see the plot but it was good i loved it all it so well written a fab story lots of fun i wanted it to carry on 5 stars a fab book i loved i say you all should read this book

my review for paper swans by jessica thompson

PAPER SWANS BY JESSICA THOMPSON
THE BLURB
Ben Lawrence seems to have it all – the hot job, the flashy car, the luxurious apartment. But one tragic day in his past mars his future.
Since the events of that day he hasn’t truly got close to
 anyone.
He made a promise that love was the price he would pay for his mistakes.
When Effy Jones – a bright, ambitious charity founder – walks into the PR firm where Ben works, neither realise that their lives are about to be turned upside down.
Paper Swans tells of how love can conquer all, and how when everything is broken one person can help to put the pieces together…
WHAT I SAY

What a fab book the main storyline is about Ben he someone with mental health problems the book shows you that people can hide things so easily
They should not bottle it all up the subject was written with such knowledge and skill very well research too .
Ben was a very success young man he got a job he loved he a high flyer in the company he got a very flash car which he loves He gorgeous everyone loves him but Ben hates him self so much he been hiding a tragic event from his past he can not get it out of his head it eating away at him he can not get it out of his mind . To the outside world he got a brilliant job a very expensive car a lovely apartment and lots of money what more could this young man want ?
Ben not told many people what happen that day he has never dealt with it just bottled it up he can not bring him self to love again why ?
Then one day Effy walks into his life (his work) she not idea about Ben past or his life she know idea what going on with him
Effy was a lovely character she works 24/7 just like Ben does most of the time she a very successful young lady her work is fab can her and Ben work together?
The story very good you get pulled into it . It will make you think about things .The book got love , family , work , charity work , illness and friendships
They all seem to link into the story well
I like that we got to hear all about Effy charity work it was great to hear why she set it up and why she want to help the small children in Uganda
The book about two people falling in love the relationship does not run very smoothly at all
It will make you laugh at some thinks they do
Ben should have talk more to Effy about his work and what was on his mind i think
The whole book very good the plot very good the issue are dealt with in a very nice way it will may you think about life i want to tell you more about the story but i want you all to read you will love it 4 stars read enjoy pass on
I like to thank bookbridgr for letting me read this fab book

TODAY ON MY BLOG BILLIE JONES (REBECCA RAISIN) WITH SOME FAB Q&A

I like to welcome Billie Jones (Rebecca Raisin as you may know her as ) to my blog and face book page today

Can you tell me a bit about Mexican kimono ?

Mexican Kimono was written a long time ago, and went through numerous edits, and rewrites. I did a twenty week manuscript class and worked on it for the entire time. It’s not your usual chick lit. It’s a little bit rude. The heroine is selfish. The other characters are extreme. But it’s funny, and quirky and I hope it makes me people laugh.

What inspires you to write?
Oh everything! There’s ALWAYS a story running through my mind. Or a character or a certain scene. As Billie, I like writing about things I usually have no clue about, like Snake Typhoon! Or Mexican Kimono, where the characters are thrown into outlandish situations and they have to tell me how to get them out of it!

Do you base your characters on people you know ?
No! They’d kill me! I write about people I ‘see’ when I picture the story. They’re always sassy, or funny, or tough. They have to be to deal with what’s about to happen to them!

Where do you like to write ?
At the beach, or on my balcony after a long night of tequila shooters usually.

How did you get into writing?
Well, since I’m essentially fictional being a pseudonym and all, I’ll say because of a dare. And I took on that dare, and here I am

Who your favourite character in this book and why ?
Sam is a favourite because she’s so flawed, and so funny. There’s so much freedom in writing a girl like that and not worrying about whether she’s liked or not, because hopefully the story will explain her reasons well enough.

Where do you get your ideas from ?
They’re always just there. A picture, a song, a memory. The idea of the perfect guy. A night out gone terribly wrong. There’s so many ideas, and way less time.

How did you get into write your books ?
I started on the advice of another writer. And I’m a huge reader. So I took a few classes and was instantly addicted. There was another outlet for my hyper personality other than night clubbing.

What advice would get any that would love to write ?
Pretend that no one will read it and write honestly. It’s the best fun that way.

Do you have a favourite book and why ?
There are SO many! Anything that makes you suspend belief for a while, and forget about the real world is good by me

Do you prefer book or kindle and why ?
I like both. Kindle is good when you’re on the move, and paperbacks in bed, always Aj

Can you tell me a bit about your next book ?
I’m hoping to get onto the sequel for Snake Typhoon! Which is Tarantula Quake. The only thing stopping me is my abject fear of spiders.

What Your fav food and drink?
Favourite food is Lemon. To go in my favourite drink, Tequila.
If you could change one thing in your life what

would you change and why ?
I’d make summer last all year, because there’s nothing better than the glare off the ocean, and a story in my mind, while I sit on the hot sand, and dream.

Thanks for having me here, Amandajayne ! xxx

I like to thank rebecca for doing this fab post with me please check out her books you will enjoy them all i have x

TANYA “S REVIEW POST ON A MONDAY

TANYA REVIEW POST ON A MONDAY
The Hidden Cottage by Erica James
THE BLURB
Mia Channing appears to have an enviable life: a beautiful home, a happy marriage, a job she enjoys and three grown-up children to whom she’s devoted. But appearances can be deceptive…
When the family gathers for her son’s thirtieth birthday, he brings with him his latest girlfriend, who, to their surprise, has a nine-year-old daughter. Then, before the birthday cake has even been cut, Mia’s youngest daughter Daisy has seized the opportunity to drop a bombshell. It’s an evening that marks a turning point in all their lives, when old resentments and regrets surface and the carefully ordered world Mia has created begins to unravel.
WHAT TANYA SAID
I love a good Erica James book and soon borrowed this of my Nan when I saw it on her shelf and I was not disappointed. The book is full of surprises and twists and turns. It teaches you that not everything is as it seems. Also those bad things that happen can change your life and makes you appreciate things.
The majority of the book is set in a quiet village called Little Pelham and focusses mainly on the Channing family, mum Mia, Dad Jeff. It seems like an idealist set family on the outside with three grown up children, Jensen, Eliza and Daisy, trying to make the most of life and parents. However it’s not all as it seems as Mr Jeff Channing is a domineering member of the family that unsettles the natural happy atmosphere that the others enjoy in his absence. He does not mind everyone knowing that Daisy is his favourite child and in his eyes can do nothing wrong! Well let’s see if she manages to upset the apple cart. The members of the family go through big changes throughout the story and personally I think for the better.
In the mix is a new incomer to the village called Owen Fletcher who is a charming man that returns to the village where he spent the best year of his life as a child. He is an outgoing character and I love the scene of him and his friend riding a settee on wheels down a hill with a group of children laughing after them. He buys the hidden cottage and soon becomes part of the village. I love the line “A few days in the country on his own he was talking to a peacock called Putin. What next for him?” The village actually has a peacock that is allowed to roam all over and wakes everyone up at dawn with his call. Well to find out what next for Owen you will have to read to find out.
There are other characters that are in the book that make you smile with their enjoyment of life and the way that they approach people. I really like the character of Muriel who is very outspoken but so much fun.
I enjoyed the book and would recommend you borrow it off your Nan too and give it a read. Happy reading.

All fall down by jennifer Weiner my blog review

ALL FALL DOWN MY JENNIFER WEINER
BOOK 11 IN MY NET GALLEY MONTH
THE BLURB
Allison Weiss is a typical working mother, trying to balance a business, ageing parents, a demanding daughter and a marriage. But when the website she develops becomes a huge success, she finds herself challenged to the point of being completely overwhelmed. As she struggles to hold her life together and meet the needs of all the people around her, Allison finds that the painkillers she was prescribed for a back injury help her deal with more than just physical discomfort – they make her feel calm and get her through the increasingly hectic days. Sure, she worries that the bottles seem to empty a bit faster each week, but it’s not like she’s some Hollywood starlet partying all night. It’s not as if she has an actual problem. Until she ends up in a world she never thought she’d experience outside of a movie theatre: rehab. And as Allison struggles to get her life back on track, she learns a few life lessons along the way. With a sparkling comedic touch and tender, true-to-life characterizations, All Fall Down is a tale of empowerment and redemption and Jennifer Weiner’s richest, most absorbing and timely story yet.
WHAT I SAY
I not sure what to write for this book it was a good story but it took me a up to page 120 to get into the story it did not grip me i nearly gave up a few times but i so glad i carry on it turn into a good gripping read full heart arch
It shows you how we all could slide into a addiction it was so easy for Allison to do that she was just trying to cope with her busy days .we all look at people and see the perfect life they have ( good job , kids, lovely home,a fab husband ,look good and money ) we can not see that things are not all ways perfect we all judge but we should not we do it most of the time i think .
Allison a very successful working mum her blog doing so well now it making lots of money but it taking up a lot of her time
Ellie a bit of a hand full at time i felt she was spoiled she a girl that use to getting what she wants
We find out that Allison hurt her back at the gym and was given very strong painkillers for it but that was a long time ago she still taking them to help her cope with her day her dad got Alzheimer she finds that hard to cope with soon she taking up to 60 a day .she sleeps all the time .she can not see what see doing
One day she took her pill with a glass of wine see goes to pick Ellie up from school what a bad idea that day she could of put their life’s in danger but i think this was a point that she see what happing to her she seems to be going on a downhill spiral she buying drugs of the net at last her husband finds out he so mad he just want to help and sort her out he put her onto rehab
I like the rehab part of the book best i was there with her i was so glad she got help it was hard for her to open up but i was so glad when she starts to talk about her addiction how and why she got the drugs omg it was so easy for her to get them you can see how easy it was for people to get into prescriptive drugs . It just makes you think . It a very good book it written very well just a bit slow at start but then i was hooked i like the last part best i sorry to say i think of a addict as a homeless , dirty , un care for person (i should not say that ) this book makes you think a addiction can happen to any one you or me we should not stereotype people which we all do
The book so well research it a bit hard to read but once i got into it i did enjoy it .it a very through provoking read to me addiction is not a answer it most be so hard to deal with i just hope people could help you
You will love or hate this book i not sure i did enjoy but just not my kind of book it did pull me in near the end
I got to say 3 stars ok read borrow i wouldn’t read again
I like to thank net galley for letting me read ( Paul got me this book when I was in hospital as I did not have my kindle  )

A BIT ABOUT THE BOOK (from amazon)
For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public–well, five members of the public, actually. The lucky five who find a Golden Ticket in their Wonka bars will receive a private tour of the factory, given by Mr Wonka himself. For young Charlie Bucket, this a dream come true. So when he finds a dollar bill in the street, he can’t help but buy two Wonka’s Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights–even though his impoverished family could certainly use the extra dollar for food. But as Charlie unwraps the second chocolate bar, he sees the glimmer of gold just under the wrapper. The very next day, Charlie, along with his unworthy fellow winners Mike Teavee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Augustus Gloop, steps through the factory gates to discover whether or not the rumours surrounding the Chocolate Factory and its mysterious owner are true. my review for mexican kimono by billie jones 5 stars have you read it ?

MEXICAN KIMONO BY BILLIE JONES
BOOK10 IN MY NET GALLEY MONTH
THE BLURB
Samantha knows what she wants from life – and she’s got it!
1.A loving family. OK, her Mum’s plan to marry her off to the world’s most metrosexual man might not be id
eal… but it’s only because she cares!
2.A great job. Or at least: a job that leaves plenty of time to update Twitter and shop for designer bargains online…
3.A credit card, with a very generous limit. So generous that she’s just spent over $10,000 on an antique kimono…
But suddenly Samantha’s charmed life starts to fall apart! From a hair-related fire to losing her job, Sam’s facing bad karma – and it all started when she bought that kimono…
Sure, it’s ridiculous. How could a piece of silk ever bring bad luck? But it can! Because, whether Samantha likes it or not, someone wants to teach her a lesson: it’s what’s inside that counts.
But will Samantha slow down long enough to listen?
WHAT I SAY

What can i say about this fab book it so funny i highly recommend you all read it it will make you laugh. Sam the main character you will love or hate her she a bit dippy at times she not got a care in the world she loves spending money she not got . She buy that kimono at this auction she not sure why she was just pulled in by the look of it she got no cash so it goes on her card again not a good idea .
She a bit of a happy go lucky kind of girl .I say she not worried about not paying her gas bills rents ect one of her friends a hairdresser she lives next door she brought a bottle of shampoo years ago from her now she just pop next door to top it up her friend got no idea she did this . She will make you laugh at some of the things she does she seem to be very fussy about her friends at times sometimes she was a bit to judgmental at times i wanted to shout at her so many times she just does silly things or i should say silly things happen to her

THE CITY BY DEAN KOONTZ

THE CITY BY DEAN KOONTZ
BOOK 9 IN MY NET GALLERY MONTH
THE BLURB
No.1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz is at the peak of his storytelling powers with this major new novel – a rich, multi-layered story that moves back and forth across decades and generations as a gifted musician relates the ‘terrible and wonderful’ events that began in his city in 1967, when he was ten.
THIS IS THE STORY OF A BOY AND A CITY…
Jonah Kirk’s childhood has been punctuated by extraordinary moments – like the time a generous stranger helped him realize his dream of learning the piano. Nothing is more important to him than his family and friends, and the electrifying power of music.
But now Jonah has a terrifying secret. And it sets him on a collision course with a group of dangerous people who will change his life forever.
For one bright morning, a single earth-shattering event will show Jonah that in his city, good is entwined with malice, and sometimes the dark side of humanity triumphs. But it will also teach him that courage and honour are found in the most unexpected places, and the way forward lies buried deep inside the heart.
